Automated Water Level Recorder (AWLR) Demonstration Facility under NHP
Under National Hydrology Project, CWPRS has established a demonstration facility for Automated Water Level Recorder (AWLR) System to measure the level of water. This facility is used to guide the field engineers of various State Implementing Agencies to better understand the technical concepts of Surface Water Level Instruments, their working, installation and maintenance. Three types of water level sensors are installed here; Radar Sensor, Ultrasonic Sensor and Shaft Encoder type water level sensor. Field engineers can practically see here the connections of sensors, data logger, solar panel, working principle of each sensor and their installation requirements as per the site conditions. This facility helps them to deal with the issues related to AWLR sensors, data acquisition system at gauging station and maintenance of AWLR.
Wave Height Measurement using CWHR at various Physical Hydraulic Model
Capacitance type wave height sensors, developed in-house, are deployed at various locations in the wave Basin. The capacitance of the copper wire connected in the sensor varies with variation in the water level. The wave data is acquired from the sensors through Capacitance Wave Height Recorder (CWHR) unit and Analog to Digital Converter connected to USB port of the PC. The acquired wave data is analyzed to compute wave energy spectrum.
Temperature measurement using PT-100 at various thermal dispersion studies
This facility is used to carry out thermal dispersion studies to identify the locations of cooling water intake and outfall for the coastal power projects and also to conduct basic research studies for developing innovative techniques for the enhancement of rate of heat dissipation in the hot water discharge system from the power plant. This facility requires Water Level and Velocity measurements along with temperature at certain locations.
